Attorney General Steve Marshall Announces Indictment of Morgan County Man for Child Pornography Possession

Morgan County Sheriff's Office issued the following announcement on April 1.

Attorney General Steve Marshall announced the indictment of a Morgan County man on multiple charges of possession of child pornography. Jason Heath Putnam, 47, of Decatur, was previously arrested by warrant on related charges on November 3, 2021. He remains free on $300,000 bond.

Attorney General Marshall's Criminal Trials Division presented evidence to a Morgan County grand jury, resulting in Putnam's indictment*, on March 2, 2022. Specifically, the indictment charges him with 25 counts of possession of obscene matter depicting a person under the age of 17.

The indictment was the result of cooperation between the Attorney General's Office, Morgan County Sheriff's Office and Decatur Police Department Alabama.

No further information about the investigation other than that stated in the indictment may be released at this time.

If convicted, Putnam faces a maximum penalty of up to 10 years imprisonment and a fine of up to $15,000 for each of the 25 counts of possession of obscene matter, which are

class C felonies.
