Due to the deadly arctic air expected Christmas weekend, with highs reaching only 25 with lows of 11 (possibly below zero), HANDS ACROSS DECATUR has made the decision that we will be open as an emergency overnight shelter beginning Thursday afternoon at 4 pm through at least December 26, at 1 pm. The temps are expected to be 8 degrees by Thursday afternoon - going down to below 0 with wind chill before Friday morning. This is for our unhoused community and is due to the deadly arctic air expected by December 22. If the life threatening weather arrives sooner or stays later,  we will address at that time.

We will need volunteers each day and night to help with this. 2-3 for day time and 2 for night time.  Christmas Day has been taken care of already and World Harvest Church is providing traditional Christmas Dinner. Please PM us or text 256-616-8210 if you can help in any way!!!

If any church in town has cots we can borrow, we would appreciate it. Some have asked how they can help: volunteer for day shift or night shift, help cook meals, provide cots, provide pillows and blankets, launder blankets after the overnight is no longer needed. To donate financially and receive a tax benefit since we are a 501c3 nonprofit:

Thank you so very much Decatur!
