Calhoun Student Recognized as a 2022 Lockheed Martin Vocational Scholarship Recipient

Calhoun student Michael Kerr will now have a much less financial burden for his college expenses after being named among the 2022 Lockheed Martin Vocational Scholarship recipients.

“This scholarship means the world to me,” said Kerr. “As a husband and father, self-financing my way through college became expensive and burdensome, especially when my goal was to graduate debt-free. This scholarship couldn’t have come at a better time as I am nearing my last 10 classes, and will now have enough money to complete my Associate of Applied Science degree in Machine Tool Technology. My stress levels are lowered, and now I can focus on my education, as well as spend more time with my family instead of working two jobs to pay for school. Lockheed Martin has not only invested in my education but my life and future. I owe this degree not only to myself but to my family and Lockheed Martin for making this possible,” he added.

Lockheed Martin designed this scholarship to help reduce some of the monetary burdens many students face, in particular, those students pursuing a degree in a STEM-related field. Recipients can not only use the scholarship for school-related expenses such as tuition and books, but also for other expenses that could pose a hindrance to arriving to class such as transportation.

Kerr hopes to complete his degree requirements next fall and participate in Calhoun’s 2023 commencement ceremony.
