Local heroes recognized at Decatur City Council meeting for helping heart attack patient

On Monday, August 15, Decatur Fire & Rescue Chief Tracy Thorton and Mayor Tab Bowling recognized local heroes at the Decatur City Council meeting. On the afternoon of June 25, 2022, a Decatur citizen suffered a massive heart attack at Publix located on the Beltline. Decatur resident Patrick Swinney immediately began CPR, Publix Manager Brad Evans retrieved their automated external defibrillator, and Publix worker Dana Wise called 911. Thanks to their quick actions, the patient regained consciousness.

Chief Thorton and Mayor Bowling also recognized Morgan County 911 dispatcher Ryan Burns, Decatur Fire Recuse personnel Lt. Emily Tapscott, Lt. Blake Powers, Driver/Engineer Jonathon Anders, Firefighter Gunnar Walling, Firefighter Blake Baker, and Firefighter Braxton Cescutti, who took over patient care when they arrived.
