The U.S. House Appropriations Committee approved on Apr. 22 the Fiscal Year 2027 Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies funding bill, which includes $565 million for the design and construction of the U.S. Space Command Headquarters at Redstone Arsenal.
This move is significant as it brings the establishment of a permanent headquarters for Space Command closer to reality, highlighting North Alabama’s ongoing role in national defense efforts. The committee’s approval provides $115 million designated for design and $450 million for construction of the new facility.
“Establishing the Space Command headquarters at Redstone Arsenal is long overdue. This investment not only enhances our military strategy, but it also reinforces North Alabama’s critical role in our national defense,” said Congressman Dale Strong.
Strong said that this development marks “a major step in the right direction to get shovels in the ground and deliver a permanent home for Space Command.” He added, “There is no better place than Redstone Arsenal to carry out this critical defense mission.”
As space becomes increasingly important to national security due to evolving global threats, Space Command’s mission includes deterring aggression and protecting vital satellite and communication systems. The appropriations bill now moves forward to consideration by the full U.S. House of Representatives.
Dale Strong has represented Alabama’s 5th district in Congress since replacing Mo Brooks in 2023 according to public records. He previously served both in the Alabama House of Representatives and on the Madison County Commission as reported by his official biography. Born in Monrovia, Alabama in 1970, Strong currently lives in Huntsville according to biographical information. He graduated from Athens State University with a Bachelor of Science degree.
