Huntsville Animal Services will unleash the fun at its first Howl-o-ween Trunk or Treat event from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Oct. 29.

Come make the most of a weekend filled with Halloween festivities by taking a tour of decorated car trunks filled with sweet treats at the animal shelter.

“We’ve got candy for your little humans and free giveaways to take home to your pets,” said Huntsville Animal Services Director Dr. Karen Sheppard. “Best of all, we’ll give you a baggie of dog or cat treats to take inside and share with the shelter animals, who are looking for forever homes.”

This event is free and open to the public. Costumes are welcome but not required for participation. Sheppard recommends leaving your furry family members home during this event so the shelter animals can enjoy the extra attention.

“We love our community and want to offer a unique spin on the traditional trunk or treat,” she said. “We love seeing new faces at the shelter and wanted to create an event that would be fun for both humans and animals. It’s a real treat for everyone involved.”

Shelter animals will be available for adoption during the festivities. Adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and come with a City license and free bag of pet food. Those unable to adopt are asked to consider fostering an animal through the shelter’s foster program.

Located at 4950 Triana Blvd. SW, the shelter is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
