During the first quarter of 2026, Decatur Health & Rehab Center in Morgan County was operated by Alabama Skilled Nursing Facility Operations Holdings, LLC, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported. Alabama Skilled Nursing Facility Operations Holdings, LLC has managed the facility since March 24, 2023.

The facility operates on a for-profit basis.

During this timeframe, Decatur Health & Rehab Center received an overall CMS rating of 1, lower than Alabama’s average nursing home rating of 3.0. CMS assigns ratings based on factors such as results from health inspections, staffing figures, and resident care quality.

Data show Decatur Health & Rehab Center cared for an average of 112.4 residents per day in the first quarter of 2026 with 119 available beds. The center is not affiliated with a hospital.

The facility accumulated $25,367 in total fines and faced four penalties during the first quarter of 2026.

Morgan County reported a total of four for-profit nursing homes.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates indicate that the nation’s older adult population is rising while the number of younger people declines. Between 2020 and 2024, Americans age 65 and over increased by 13%, compared to a 1.7% decrease for those under 18. The senior population in the United States has expanded significantly since 1920, growing from 4.9 million to more than 61 million by 2024.

Research published in 2021 estimates that almost 50% of this age group, about 28 million people, could need long-term support or services. The same study expects more than a third may require eventual nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education group. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
