Dale W. Strong, U.S. Congressman representing Alabama’s 5th district since 2023, has used his social media platform to criticize Democratic leadership during the ongoing government shutdown. In a series of posts in October 2025, Strong addressed the impact of the shutdown on federal workers and constituents.
On October 8, 2025, Strong wrote, “This Democrat shutdown is hurting the American people. Service members, air traffic controllers, and more essential staff are working without knowing if their next paycheck is coming. Hundreds of thousands of federal workers have been furloughed. Mothers, infants, and children”.
The following day, he continued his criticism by highlighting the struggles faced by residents of North Alabama and the nation at large. On October 9, 2025, Strong posted, “People in North Alabama and all over our country are struggling. Yet, Democrats insist that ‘every day gets better’ while ignoring the real damage being done. @HouseGOP and @HouseAppropsGOP have provided a clean Continuing Resolution to ease this suffering. When will the https://t.co/bMXQiOlJmC”.
Later that same day, Strong further stated, “The Democrats are putting their agenda ahead of the American people and holding our nation hostage in the process.”
Strong’s remarks come amid a period of government shutdown that has resulted in furloughs for federal workers and uncertainty for essential personnel such as service members and air traffic controllers. As of 2023, Strong has served as a U.S. Representative for Alabama’s 5th District, following his tenure in the Alabama House of Representatives and Madison County Commission. He was born in Monrovia, Alabama in 1970, currently resides in Huntsville, and is an alumnus of Athens State University with a Bachelor of Science degree.
