Two new sports fields are coming soon to South Huntsville. The City approved a $2.4 million contract with Chorba Contracting Corporation to build facilities for the Hays Farm Sports Park.

The contract includes two regulation-size, multipurpose fields suitable for soccer, lacrosse and other activities. The lighted turf fields will be supported by a restroom pavilion, 120 lighted parking spaces, perimeter fencing, landscaping and irrigation.

The nine-acre sports park will be located on the west side of Haysland Road across from Grissom High School. It is designed to tie into the greenway running along Haysland and will also be accessible through a tunnel from the eastern side of the road. The park is expected to open in spring 2024.

“We’re excited about this addition to our recreation programming because of increased demand for Ultimate Frisbee and other field sports,” said James Gossett, Director of Parks & Recreation. “We also look forward to collaborating with the school system to help provide practice options for Grissom’s junior varsity and varsity soccer teams.”The City has two more regulation-size, artificial fields under construction in John Hunt Park adjacent to the Championship Soccer Complex.
