Congressman Dale Strong, a member of the House Appropriations Committee, secured two provisions for North Alabama in the Fiscal Year 2027 Financial Services and General Government appropriations bill, which passed out of committee on Apr. 22.

The first provision directs the United States Postal Service Office of Inspector General to evaluate delivery performance, staffing levels, and operational bottlenecks in areas with ongoing service issues such as North Alabama. This is intended to address concerns about mail reliability and efficiency in the region.

“Families, small businesses, and seniors depend on timely, reliable mail delivery, whether it’s for receiving medication, paying bills, or managing daily commerce. This audit brings accountability and oversight to the Postal Service by identifying systemic failures and ensuring it implements the necessary changes to improve reliability and efficiency,” said Congressman Strong.

Strong also said he has heard concerns from constituents about unreliable mail service since coming to Congress. “I remain concerned about the negative impacts of consolidation, including degraded mail service, declining customer satisfaction, and cost overruns,” Strong said. “This audit is about getting clear answers and making sure the Postal Service delivers the level of service our communities expect.”

A second provision directs USPS to continue its internal review where ZIP codes overlap municipal boundaries or result in incorrect city designations. The updated report will include analysis regarding a unique ZIP code designation for Skyline, Alabama.

These efforts are part of Strong’s continued work on postal issues in North Alabama. He has advocated for a new post office in ZIP Code 35763; pushed for a regional processing facility; required reviews regarding unique ZIP Codes for Priceville and Skyline; and supported directives mandating USPS review consolidation impacts according to his previous actions.

The appropriations bill now heads to consideration by the full U.S. House of Representatives.

Dale Strong is currently serving in Congress representing Alabama’s 5th district after replacing Mo Brooks in 2023 according to public records. He previously served both in the state legislature and Madison County Commission as reported by biographical sources. Born in Monrovia in 1970 at age 52 he resides in Huntsville based on available information. Strong holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Athens State University.
